Jeannine Griffiths

MANISTIQUE - Jeannine Griffiths, 79, of 565N County Road 441, Manistique (Indian Lake), died July 22, 2008, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was born July 16, 1929 in Wilmington, Ohio, the daughter of Douglas and Helen (Barr) Fuller.

On Sept. 18, 1948, Jeannine married Frederick Griffiths in Detroit. They spend most of their lives in several Lower Michigan communities, moving to Manistique in 1989 from Lake Orion, Mich.

She attended Marygrove College in Detroit while living in that area.

Jeannine was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique. Over the years, she served as a volunteer, first at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and then at Samaritan Health Center, both in Detroit, holding positions as gift shop buyer and also as manager and chairman of the Gift Shop Committee. She was a former board member of The Friends of Samaritan Health Center. In 1987, when her husband retired, she was presented with a plaque honoring her for over 14,500 hours of volunteer service in 14 years.

Jeannine is survived by her husband, Frederick J. Griffiths of Manistique; seven sons, Frederick D. (Galais) Griffiths of Oxford, Mich., Timothy Griffiths of Indianapolis, Robert (Patricia) Griffiths of Manistique, John (Elizabeth) Griffiths of Lake Orion, Joseph (Ellen) Griffiths of Loxahatchee, Fla., William (Mary Carol) Griffiths of Lake Orion, and Martin Griffiths of Pontiac, Mich.; two daughters, Mary Catherine (William) Boyd of Lake Orion and Anne Marie (Charles) Kitchner of Ortonville, Mich.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce King of Pensacola, Fla., along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, David and James Griffiths; and one daughter, Mary Margaret Griffiths.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A rosary led by members of the Knights of Columbus will be recited at 6:30 p.m. and parish liturgical prayers will be said at 7:30.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Church with Father Glenn Theoret officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.

A luncheon will follow the committal service at the St. Francis de Sales Parish Center.

Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Francis de Sales School Education Foundation.
